'They clung like burrs to the long expresses that lurch through the unjust lands,
through the night, through the alpine tunnel;
They floated over the oceans;
They walked the passes.
All presented their lives'

This site is dedicated to the memory of the men and women of the XV International Brigade who fought fascism in Spain between 1936 and 1939. The aim of this website is to produce a permanent pictorial history of the Brigadistas, a place which will house the many photographs which exist, and to hopefully provide names to faces that previously bore none. This site will be in a constant state of flux with new pictures and information coming to light at various times throughout the days and weeks ahead. I encourage input from as many people as possible, and i do hope incorrect information will be corrected by all who view the site. I actively seek constructive advice, as i do not consider myself an expert on the subject of the Brigades. I know many people who hold a far greater knowledge of the subject than i, and i welcome their advice and information. I do my utmost to ensure as much of the information is as accurate as possible, where mistakes do occur, i take full responsibility and will amend as soon as possible. I will acknowledge copyright where i have the source otherwise I will do my best to credit any work in retrospect. My thanks go to the many individuals who have helped in naming both volunteers and locations.
"The Madrileños heard the sound of steady marching feet; at first they thought that the Fascists had broken through the city’s defence, but then they heard the sound of a song that was becoming more and more familiar to their ears as the columns marched along Gran Via towards the front. The song they heard was a song of defiance, of international solidarity and comradeship. It was “The Internationale”. The people listened heard it sung not only in Spanish, not just in another language, but in a variety of languages. The first of the International Brigades had arrived."
